It almost looks like a creature from another planet, and its unique appearance can challenge learning to draw a stingray.

Our step-by-step tutorial on drawing a stingray will show you how fun and easy it can be to draw one of these amazing creatures.
How to Draw A Stingray
Step 1
As mentioned in the introduction to this guide to drawing a stingray, this creature’s unique structure can make drawing a real challenge.
For this reason, in this guide, we will break it down into more basic lines and shapes. We’ll keep it very simple in this first step as well since you’ll only draw a small portion of the outline for now.
As shown in the reference image, you can do this with a more curvy and wavy line, This line will later form the head and front of the body. So if you’re ready, let’s move on to the next steps!
Step 2
This second part of your racial drawing continues what you started in the previous part of your racial drawing.
You can still use a wavy line starting from the line you drew earlier, thus forming the top of the stingray’s body.
When drawing this line, you should try to reproduce it as it appears in the reference image, as this will help the body flow look correct.
It might not seem like much now, but it will all fall into place as you add more detail and body parts.
Step 3
In this step of our How to Draw a Stingray guide, we will add a lot more to the creature’s outline.
If we use more of these wavy lines, we can start on the back of the stingray. The closer you get to the tail, the thinner it gets. In this step, we will also draw the beginning of this tail.
Stingrays have eyes on the top of their heads, and we will also draw one of the eyes in this part.
You can draw the eye as a flat rounded shape, and we will add some small curved lines around the eye for more expression detail. When you’re ready to move on, it’s time to move on to Step 4!
Step 4
For this step and the next, we will finish the outline and some of the final details for your ray drawing.
For this step, draw a few slightly rounded lines down the center of the body to show the structure of the stingray’s body.
This makes distinguishing from the wing-like pectoral fins you’ve already drawn easier.
Finally, for the end of the tail, you can use some slightly sharper curved lines, as shown in the reference image.
Once we have drawn all these elements, the next step is adding the finishing touches and details.
Step 5
We will spend this fifth step of our guide on drawing a stingray, completing some minor details and adding some finishing touches.
As details, we have provided the whole body of the stingray with many small dots.
These give the stingray an even more dynamic look and are a great way to round off the design.
You can also add some personal touches and create an awesome background for this picture.
You could draw a seabed with many more sea creatures or add something like a sunken pirate ship!
Step 6
In this final part of your ray drawing, we will finish it with some color. In our reference image, we’ve opted for some darker shades, mostly dark blues.
This is offset by the bright orange we used for the stingray’s eye and provides some contrast. We chose These colors, but you shouldn’t feel limited by them!
Stingrays come in many color combinations, from more muted color combinations, like in our picture to the brightest color combinations you can imagine.
This gives you a lot of freedom, and be sure to use all your favorite colors for this image!
You can also make your color choices in different mediums, so make sure you have fun experimenting with your colors and tools.
