Indigenous knowledge on erectile dysfunction and indigenous medicines was gathered by visiting traditional healers and documenting medicinal plants, as well as their socio-cultural implications. Informal discussions, field trips, and focused semi-structured interviews were used to collect data. Twenty-three medicinal plants were documented for their role in the management of impotence. Citruses articulate were one of the most frequently used medicinal plants.

Studies on the use of Ginkgo Biloba for the treatment of sexual dysfunction have shown promising results. Ginkgo biloba is a highly valued herb, both in traditional Chinese medicine and in modern Western medical research. Its leaves contain a complex mix of terpenes and flavonoids. They have complex effects on blood viscosity, prostanoid production, platelets, and endothelial function. In one study, fifty patients with arterial erectile dysfunction were treated with 240 mg of ginkgo Biloba extract daily for nine months, and their results were encouraging.

Nitrates in watermelon help with erectile dysfunction
Watermelon contains a lot of citrulline and nitrates, which are two key amino acids for penis health. In a study, citrulline improved blood flow and erectile function in rats with erectile dysfunction. The study also found that rats who consumed watermelon flesh extract were more likely to mount females. While these findings are preliminary, the researchers say that drinking watermelon juice may help erectile dysfunction patients.
Citrulline can increase blood flow by stimulating the production of nitric oxide, a molecule necessary for erections. Nitric oxide is a molecule needed for proper blood flow in the penis, and citrulline does not produce it. So, it’s premature to call watermelon a natural Viagra. Experts caution against claiming that watermelon can cure erectile dysfunction.
