Cosmetic corrosion, which can occur on a number of coated metal systems, is a primary cause of coating breakdown on aluminum alloys. The attack often occurs as blisters or narrow, twisting “worm” tracks called filiform corrosion. Both the blisters and filiform corrosion propagate at the interface between the metal and a coating.
